MW 121.14Tris is a chemical with basic properties, having a pKa of 8.1. It can be used to buffer solutions from drastic pH changes. Tris is commonly used in buffer solutions in biochemical and molecular biological research. This primary amine has an effective pH range of 7.0 - 9.2 and is reported to inhibit a number of different enzymes, limiting its usefulness in protein studies to some extent.
