MIDI has been developing rapid microbial identification solutions for clinical and environmental laboratories since 1985, under the Sherlock® brand name. No matter if you take advantage of bacterial fatty acid pattern or DNA sequence, Sherlock® identifies over 1500 microbial species (aerobes, anaerobes, mycobacteria etc). The polyphasic approach, combining GC-FAME and DNA sequence recognition of 16S rRNA gene, provides a tool for even more accurate identification in case of disambiguates. Furthermore, Sherlock® has the functionality to work as a general pattern recognition tool, eg QA/QC spices and biofuel.
